This song had its roots probably before 1900 but was first made famous by folksinger Pete Seeger in 1948. As the civil rights movement took hold in the 1950s and 1960s, We Shall Overcome became one of the anthems.
This is another one of my favorites that's sung by just about every folksinger and around every campfire.
